Game of the Year 2013 (Gry Edition)

Friends, hobos, countrymen, lend me your ears!

No, I mean it, I need a new pair of ears. I can’t hear anything over the sound of how my mind was blown by last year’s best game holy shit that was something!!! Ahem. What I wanted to say is, just in time for the Academy Awards I have come to talk about my personal game of the year. I wanted to do this ever since the new year started, look back at the games that have been released in 2013 and that I played, which… weren’t that many, frankly. Which is a shame, but once you have an actual job, there’s barely any time to spend big money on a new game, because you know you barely get to play it, so you spend little money on an old game.

And while I was quite confident that I got my hands on the (subjectively) best games released last year, it was still tough to decide on a best one, because all of them have felt a bit… mediocre. Very few to none had a really original concept (mind you, I don’t count indie games, because it’s far more important to me what the big productions are doing to justify their spot in the market) and to be honest, I’m not even sure which ones were released in 2013 and are instead already way older than that. And with some, it’s kind of a grey area, like Persona 4 Golden, which is an amazing remake of an already amazing game, but can hardly be seen as the best game of the year because the original was released back in 2008/09. And thus began my mission to find a game that can keep up with Persona 4, not under the same aspects, but feeling just as amazing.

Review: Corpse Party – Book of Shadows

I was just remembering the last time I played Dead Space. You know, when I pointed a gun at a necromorph… and shot it! Man, that was some intense shit, dude. Did you know it’s better with Kinect? *ka-ching* Thanks EA. *sniffs money* What do you mean, I’m a little late for that joke? What joke? Am I missing something?

So yeah, horror games. Strange subject that is. Some build up the tension by having a creepy atmosphere, some surprise you with jump scares and others just freak you out with cruel footage. But they all have one thing in common: the mystery surrounding the game ceases a little after the first game, and you’re left with just mostly violence. Is that the case for Book of Shadows as well? Let’s look into it. And don’t worry, just like with the review about the first game, I won’t spoil anything.

I mean, you did read that review and then played the game, right? You better do it and return afterwards, or Nana’ll get mad. JonTron reference anyone? No? Okay…

Random News: Modern Gods and Medieval Demons

WHAT IS THIS?!

WHAT IS THIS?!?!

HOW IS- Alright, let’s just say sorry first for being a little late, but I had to wipe all the coffee from my screen first. Y’know I was trying to study for my exam this saturday, minding my own business when suddenly I notice how there are suddenly a lot of Tweets about a single subject, something awesome I would almost not have noticed due to my increased absence from the internet. Just… just take a look.

Back to my initial question: WHAT IS THIS? HOW IS IT A THING?!

1334366088027

I have no clue what this is about, but the evidence we have is sufficent enough. All I know is that I WANT IT! I mean, two of my most loved franchises combined into one game, this is the best fangasm-inducing message since Project X Zone!!!

Nintendo, you have won. I surrender. I will get a Wii U. This was the trigger that decided on it. I thought Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was good news already, but DAMN. That’s it. I’m out of words I could say about this. Except: fuck all talk about PS4 and 720. Sony and Microsoft, look at what Nintendo does and learn from it. Consoles alone will not bring you success, it’s the library of available games that does! Look at the Vita, a technically advanced beast. Think about that before even thinking about a new console! Cheers!

Random News: Travel Issues and Heart Attacks

Ah, finally! Back from my vacation! (Wait, why did I say finally? I didn’t want to go away from there! School uniforms!!!) So, I was in England for ten days (school uniformseverywhere…), made my way through places like Liverpool, York, Stratford, Bath, Torquay, Exmouth, Stonehenge, Brighton and – of course – London.

And this brings me to this small article, the very first that is not (entirely) about media technology. Huh! What’s going on in here?! … The walls are getting closer…!

Just kidding. About the walls, I mean.

So what is it that’s important enough to break the tradition of writing only about video games and movies here? Well, first of all, this was bound to happen. Yes, we are writing a ton of video game related blogs (when we feel like it), but in the beginning, this blog was simply supposed to be a collection of our opinions on… just about anything. That’s how the Internet works, boys and girls, everyone has a shitty opinion, except you!

The Moore Log: Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary

Hey y’all Space Monkies! (If you get this reference, it means you actually had to use a -helpful- walkthrough for a Final Fantasy game during the last decade and went to the Final Fantasy wiki to get it. So… congratulations on that.)

–[Legal note: This user is in no way affiliated to BlueHighwind or any of his work. He doesn’t even like that guy.]

Soooo, now that I have this silly business of putting an obscure reference into this post behind me, let’s return to the topic. The 25th Anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise is drawing near! As… as the title suggests, just in case you didn’t notice. And of course, a celebration takes place… in Tokyo. This weekend. Which is why I won’t be there. That, and I probably have no internal contacts to bring me in either. Maybe I can sneak in… Yeeeeeaaaah…

Review: The Dark Knight Rises (Movie, 2012)

(insert stupid pun about bats here)

Hey y’all. Despite saying I don’t like movie reviews, this is already the second one I’m doing, in such a short time. I guess I just don’t have the time lately to play games I could review. So instead, I watch movies. Right now, I watched the new Nolan Bats in theater, because I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. To be honest, I wasn’t really… looking forward to this movie, because I had a cold feeling it would be bastardizing the source material a lot. I began reading the comics (Detective Comics as well as Batman, but only a few spin-offs) long time after seeing the Burton and *almost throws up* Schumacher movies and some time before Batman Begins hit the big screen, and I had a hard time catching up to all the stuff that happened before, so maybe I’m not the right person to judge the… integrity of this movie. But that doesn’t keep me from adding my two cents. Because I love the comics (post-80s) for my very own reasons. You know what? I should just shut up and review the movie already.

Review: John Carter (Movie, 2012)

SCIE- Wait, I already pulled that one. Heh, ‘pull’, get it? It’s a wordplay because both times were about gravity. And gravity… pulls. It pulls. Like I did just now. (I know, I’m always so witty.)

Hey y’all. Did you ever see a movie poster and thought something along the lines of, “I don’t even know what that is, why should I watch it”, did you? I certainly did with this movie, John Carter. I didn’t even catch sight of a trailer until much later. And of course I didn’t watch it in theaters back then. Biggest. Mistake. Ever. So now that I watched it on DVD (how nostalgic), I want to write a review about it. That, and because my co-writer DumbassBadassDemonlord down there did one. Personally I don’t like writing reviews about movies very much because movies… are something you either like or don’t. It’s hard to tell if a movie is good or bad. Sure, there are really crappy productions that can be at least judged in their quality, but when it comes to pacing, storytelling and characters, it really depends on the person that’s watching the movie.

Then, why am I really doing this if it serves no purpose, because you only know if you like a movie when you really watched it? For exactly that reason. I want to make you watch it. That’s my goal. Even if you’re just a bypasser, as long as I can bring you to watch this movie, I achieved my goal with this review, regardless of whether you liked the movie or not.  Oh, and I didn’t read the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs that this film is based on. I didn’t even know he created Tarzan until now. I’m just saying that I can’t say if it’s well adapted or not, so if you’re a fan, look somewhere else. Shoo!

Am I going to take this seriously? Oh, hell no. I want to have fun too.
