The Moore Log: Final Fantasy III

Hey y’all! Happy post-Halloween everyone and welcome to the only space I’m provided with to talk about Final Fantasy games and more! Before I continue with the third installment in the series, let’s take a look at something else first. Squeenix was holding a Final Fantasy Super Fan contest. Fans of the series had the chance to prove they are the most determined of their kind by making a video about why they should receive the title and the grand prize of having your name listed in the credit roll of the next Final Fantasy game. Wow! Too bad I misunderstood the purpose and lost by default. I thought we were supposed to decorate a fan with Final Fantasy stuff to make it a ‘super fan’ and film it for a minute or less… Whoooooooops…? Well, you can’t spell Fantasy without ‘fan’, right? Heh, I’m so witty today.

Well, no, of course I didn’t. I wouldn’t be the right person for this title. In fact, I think no one would. In the eyes of Square Enix, the greatest fan is the one with the biggest collection of merchandise and costumes, the person that shove them the most money into their throats, while in my own eyes, it’s the person who spent a lot of time with the series, knows every game inside and outside and loves each installment equally. Let’s be honest: no such a person exists in this dimension. And if a person like that does exist, I envy him he or she probably didn’t even know about this contest in time.

So that’s that! Now let’s take a look at Final Fantasy III. And no, it’s not Final Fantasy VI, you silly old generation people. Here at the Moore Log, we do the counting the japanese way. Well, technically it’s roman numerals BUT I DON’T CARE!!!

So Final Fantasy III is a game. Yup. Definitely a game. I’m not so sure of it sometimes, but yes, according to the Wiki, it is. It’s also very similar to the first Final Fantasy game called Final Fantasy, as it doesn’t have pre-named main characters like Final Fantasy II did. That is, until the DS remake came up.

The Moore Log: Final Fantasy II

Finally doing another one of these. When did I say do I want to finish this series? December? We’ll see about that!

So, last time, I was talking about the original Final Fantasy game and even how I got introduced into the whole RPG business. Today, we can just skip all of this and lay the focus on just the game. What do we have? What does the title say?

Oh, no… please, I don’t even…

I said no! Damn it… You see, back in the NES era, game developers had the habit to make sequels very different from the successful originals that even made the sequels possible, like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link – Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest – Waldo II: The Great Waldo Search – and of course Final Fantasy II: Not So Final Anymore, eh?! They were probably under the impression people don’t want to play the same game twice. Well good thing they learned from that mistake because now we have good games like Super Mario Warfare 3: Ultimate Edition now with additional DLC you can buy right when the game comes out!!! Who needs difference?!?!

Random News: Travel Issues and Heart Attacks

Ah, finally! Back from my vacation! (Wait, why did I say finally? I didn’t want to go away from there! School uniforms!!!) So, I was in England for ten days (school uniformseverywhere…), made my way through places like Liverpool, York, Stratford, Bath, Torquay, Exmouth, Stonehenge, Brighton and – of course – London.

And this brings me to this small article, the very first that is not (entirely) about media technology. Huh! What’s going on in here?! … The walls are getting closer…!

Just kidding. About the walls, I mean.

So what is it that’s important enough to break the tradition of writing only about video games and movies here? Well, first of all, this was bound to happen. Yes, we are writing a ton of video game related blogs (when we feel like it), but in the beginning, this blog was simply supposed to be a collection of our opinions on… just about anything. That’s how the Internet works, boys and girls, everyone has a shitty opinion, except you!

The Moore Log: Final Fantasy I

Hey, Homura! Long TIME, no see! … Wait, wrong time travel joke.

Before going past this point, read this post to understand what I’m doing here why. Basically I’m just a fanperson, writing the memories of his favorite game series down, while trying not to spaz out too much from all this.

Ah, the very first Final Fantasy title, simply called Final Fantasy. As you can see, I’m going to talk about these games in the order they were released, not the order I played them in. In fact, this was the last Final Fantasy I finished (not counting XIII-2), so that’s a bit of an irony there. A kind warning: In the next few paragraphs I’m just going to talk about how I even got to play this game, so if you want to skip that and read about the game, just scroll down past the picture. Pictures will always serve as some sort of milestone in these posts.

Random News: Lightning! That is all!

Finally, today is the day. While I know that Final Fantasy XIII receives a lot of hate, I also know that both this game and it’s sequel are generally well liked (suck it, haters). And now, during this whole event around the 25th Anniversary of Final Fantasy, the next and final sequel in the XIII-subseries was announced, being titled Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Personally, this title reminds me of those cheesy, unnecessary movie sequels like Alien: Resurrection. Could’ve just called it Alien 4, no? … Actually, no, because it’s not a direct sequel. WELL, now that I think about it, it also reminds me of something else. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Kind of looks like… Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. And guess what, that’s almost what it is.

The Moore Log: Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary

Hey y’all Space Monkies! (If you get this reference, it means you actually had to use a -helpful- walkthrough for a Final Fantasy game during the last decade and went to the Final Fantasy wiki to get it. So… congratulations on that.)

–[Legal note: This user is in no way affiliated to BlueHighwind or any of his work. He doesn’t even like that guy.]

Soooo, now that I have this silly business of putting an obscure reference into this post behind me, let’s return to the topic. The 25th Anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise is drawing near! As… as the title suggests, just in case you didn’t notice. And of course, a celebration takes place… in Tokyo. This weekend. Which is why I won’t be there. That, and I probably have no internal contacts to bring me in either. Maybe I can sneak in… Yeeeeeaaaah…

Review: The Dark Knight Rises (Movie, 2012)

(insert stupid pun about bats here)

Hey y’all. Despite saying I don’t like movie reviews, this is already the second one I’m doing, in such a short time. I guess I just don’t have the time lately to play games I could review. So instead, I watch movies. Right now, I watched the new Nolan Bats in theater, because I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. To be honest, I wasn’t really… looking forward to this movie, because I had a cold feeling it would be bastardizing the source material a lot. I began reading the comics (Detective Comics as well as Batman, but only a few spin-offs) long time after seeing the Burton and *almost throws up* Schumacher movies and some time before Batman Begins hit the big screen, and I had a hard time catching up to all the stuff that happened before, so maybe I’m not the right person to judge the… integrity of this movie. But that doesn’t keep me from adding my two cents. Because I love the comics (post-80s) for my very own reasons. You know what? I should just shut up and review the movie already.
