Game of the Year 2013 (Gry Edition)

Friends, hobos, countrymen, lend me your ears!

No, I mean it, I need a new pair of ears. I can’t hear anything over the sound of how my mind was blown by last year’s best game holy shit that was something!!! Ahem. What I wanted to say is, just in time for the Academy Awards I have come to talk about my personal game of the year. I wanted to do this ever since the new year started, look back at the games that have been released in 2013 and that I played, which… weren’t that many, frankly. Which is a shame, but once you have an actual job, there’s barely any time to spend big money on a new game, because you know you barely get to play it, so you spend little money on an old game.

And while I was quite confident that I got my hands on the (subjectively) best games released last year, it was still tough to decide on a best one, because all of them have felt a bit… mediocre. Very few to none had a really original concept (mind you, I don’t count indie games, because it’s far more important to me what the big productions are doing to justify their spot in the market) and to be honest, I’m not even sure which ones were released in 2013 and are instead already way older than that. And with some, it’s kind of a grey area, like Persona 4 Golden, which is an amazing remake of an already amazing game, but can hardly be seen as the best game of the year because the original was released back in 2008/09. And thus began my mission to find a game that can keep up with Persona 4, not under the same aspects, but feeling just as amazing.

Random News: Modern Gods and Medieval Demons

WHAT IS THIS?!

WHAT IS THIS?!?!

HOW IS- Alright, let’s just say sorry first for being a little late, but I had to wipe all the coffee from my screen first. Y’know I was trying to study for my exam this saturday, minding my own business when suddenly I notice how there are suddenly a lot of Tweets about a single subject, something awesome I would almost not have noticed due to my increased absence from the internet. Just… just take a look.

Back to my initial question: WHAT IS THIS? HOW IS IT A THING?!

1334366088027

I have no clue what this is about, but the evidence we have is sufficent enough. All I know is that I WANT IT! I mean, two of my most loved franchises combined into one game, this is the best fangasm-inducing message since Project X Zone!!!

Nintendo, you have won. I surrender. I will get a Wii U. This was the trigger that decided on it. I thought Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was good news already, but DAMN. That’s it. I’m out of words I could say about this. Except: fuck all talk about PS4 and 720. Sony and Microsoft, look at what Nintendo does and learn from it. Consoles alone will not bring you success, it’s the library of available games that does! Look at the Vita, a technically advanced beast. Think about that before even thinking about a new console! Cheers!

Random News: Travel Issues and Heart Attacks

Ah, finally! Back from my vacation! (Wait, why did I say finally? I didn’t want to go away from there! School uniforms!!!) So, I was in England for ten days (school uniformseverywhere…), made my way through places like Liverpool, York, Stratford, Bath, Torquay, Exmouth, Stonehenge, Brighton and – of course – London.

And this brings me to this small article, the very first that is not (entirely) about media technology. Huh! What’s going on in here?! … The walls are getting closer…!

Just kidding. About the walls, I mean.

So what is it that’s important enough to break the tradition of writing only about video games and movies here? Well, first of all, this was bound to happen. Yes, we are writing a ton of video game related blogs (when we feel like it), but in the beginning, this blog was simply supposed to be a collection of our opinions on… just about anything. That’s how the Internet works, boys and girls, everyone has a shitty opinion, except you!

Random News: Lightning! That is all!

Finally, today is the day. While I know that Final Fantasy XIII receives a lot of hate, I also know that both this game and it’s sequel are generally well liked (suck it, haters). And now, during this whole event around the 25th Anniversary of Final Fantasy, the next and final sequel in the XIII-subseries was announced, being titled Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Personally, this title reminds me of those cheesy, unnecessary movie sequels like Alien: Resurrection. Could’ve just called it Alien 4, no? … Actually, no, because it’s not a direct sequel. WELL, now that I think about it, it also reminds me of something else. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Kind of looks like… Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. And guess what, that’s almost what it is.

Random News: Battle Tendency and Stardust Crusaders

Not doing any research, not attending press conferences, not checking my twitter regularly, randomly picking topics to talk about: that’s right, it’s time again for the most unprepared blogger of all time. How can I even claim these posts to be about something ‘new’, when I’m weeks too late to find something? Oh wait, maybe that’s where the ‘random’ comes in.

jojo's bizarre adventure, joseph joestar, next line

Random News: Shadow Worlds and Gimmicks

Hey y’all! Wow, these are probably the most random Random News yet. Because I have absolutely nothing “News”-like to talk about. Oh well, it’s not that I ever wrote anything really interesting or surprising in the three months of our blog, so what’s the difference. I will just tell you about video game-related things that bother me lately, that’s not a bad idea. Everyone should do that once in a while.

Random News: Hundred Knights and Infinite Souls

Selamat pagi, y’all! It’s that time again, bringing you last week’s most interesting (this is a personal opinion and does not necessarily represent the opinion of anyone involved with Sutobeya Entertainment) news related to video games and anime. Hooray. Because everybody totally goes to our site first to find out about this crap, right?

What is more fabulous than a newsletter from NIS America with one game announcement? A newsletter with three game announcements! And for the ones who don’t receive the newsletter or don’t even know what NIS is, let’s summarize it here. There is not much to say about them yet, because they were just announced for localization, so I will just name them and link to the information sheets. Y’know, to just spread the love? No? Nobody cares? That’s, that’s fine…
